Aerohive – Throughput SLA’s for your clients

Aerohive Networks has released it’s latest upgrade to its AP operating system. HiveOS3.4  and HiveManager3.4 now incorporates Performance Sentinel and Airtime Boost. IT administrators will be able to assign a minimum throughput guarantee to each 802.11n client. The system will then monitor the client’s compliance with these set levels. The system will automatically take action should throughput levels fall below the minimum SLA set using its Boost feature.

Traditional QoS has been about prioritising voice packets, but it effectivness can be hard to judge. Teh Aerohive system will provide information on how every client is performing and take automatic steps to keep all of its guaranteed throughput levels.

TALKTALK to offer 40Mbps broadband

TalkTalk are looking to offer customers in Muswell Hill, London and Whitchurch in Cardiff, Internet access speeds up to 40Mbps, this is possible due to the deployment by Openreach of FTTC technologies in these areas. This overcomes the limitation of LLU and the extended copper lengths from the Telephone exchange to the customer modem . This had previously limited the download speeds. The supporting network equipment is now based much closer the customer premises.

TalkTalk will leverage the BT Openreach FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) network that enables up to 40Mbps. If this trial proves successful TalkTalk will extend the service across the network as the new infrastructure is deployed.

Upload speeds are expected also to increase as the trial progress as the old one way (ADSL – Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Lines) which could only offer high speed downloads in one direction, to move towards the new type VDSL services which can support high speed in both directions. This will finally enable those home workers who experience lightning fast download to also get higher upload speeds initially starting at 2Mbps but ultimately moving towards 5/10Mbps, this will enable them to be able to send files in emails, videos or connect to corporate networks with the same experience as the currently get on download.

High Speed 3G access and Bonded Broadband

Chinese equipment manufacturer Huawei  has recently demonstrated the worlds fastest 3G download speeds using HSDPA+ down-link (High Speed Packet Access) of 18.2 Mbps, in Australia. This is getting close to the maximum theoretical downstream of 21Mbps.

This is well ahead of the 2Mbps universal access target from the UK government, will mobile broadband replace the fixed access network.

We think not – Openreach are investing heavily on FTTC and FTTH (Fibre to the Cabinet and Fibre to the Home). These new services can support speeds in excess of  20Mb (FTTC) and 100Mb (FTTH).

With a solution that can bond multiple broadband access links together, we can offer a very cost effective solution to provide high speed connections for small to medium business that would typically of been difficult to justify. These can be connections from either the same of different ISP’s if you require.

However HSDPA and 3G networks do offer an alternative/complementary service for events, mobile workers, construction, external broadcast or disaster recovery, should a fixed cable networks experience damage.

We have solutions that can offer up-link and down-link bonding of multiple 3G channels which can support instant mobile access download speeds from 5Mbs up to 20Mbs and beyond as network capabilities in the UK expand.

With video optimisation modules as a option this can provide very cost effective solution for live video streaming at a much lower cost than traditional satellite or microwave networks. This is an ideal solution for broadcasting, video conferencing or any other interactive video application.

If you want to know more please check out our web site, Read More…..

We would be interested to know your views on Broadband bonding and happily answer any question’s – we also have demonstration units available if you think this technology could benefit your business or you have a specific project in mind.

3G Bonded Broadband fail over

We have all become reliant on our internet connections – have you had your connection fail – what would you do if you expereiced a loss of your broadband to your busainess that lasted a number of days? Have you considered a business continuity / disaster recover plan? Read about the recent BT outage…

  http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/london/7985421.stm

Have you considered a bonded 3G broadband solution – we are able to offer a solution that can bond together up to 5 x  3G broadband access cards. This aggregated capacity increases bandwidth.

Internet Acceleration - All HTTP downlink sessions are aggregated for faster transfer via the Broadband Bonding® technology. Even in cases of single HTTP session (an example of such a session is a single file download), all Internet access lines are simultaneously combined together to provide a faster data transfer. The PortaBella BBNA2241 supports aggregation over up to 5 cellular and 2 wired Internet access lines.

Link Failure Recovery - In case of Internet access line failures, the BBNA2241 recovers the ongoing session by redistributing the load over the available access lines, even for the sessions in progress, without loss of data integrity.
Improved Network Reliability - Automatic failover protects against failures of one or more access link outages, as it will not cause failure of the aggregated access link as long as at least one access link is still active, resulting in less downtime for connection between BBNA devices.
Transparent Installation - The existing Local Area Network in the main office does not require any changes. All the installation and configuration is handled through the BBNA2241 user interface.
No Coordination with ISP - No new equipment or software is necessary from the Internet Service Provider(s). A user-friendly web-based management interface is provided for quick and easy configuration and system monitoring.
DNS load balancing for inbound requests - PortaBella BBNA can be easily configured to provide Dynamic DNS load-balancing for inbound requests for internally hosted servers such as web-server, ftp-server, mail-server etc.
Advanced QoS Algorithms – All traffic routed through the BBNA2241 is intelligently managed to prioritize real-time traffic. Additionally a unique set of proprietary algorithms are implemented to improve real-time traffic latency metrics.
If you think you could benefit from this solution please contact us.
